Spring returns to the Plains, and with it, the Time of the Challenges, when warrior fights warrior in a contest for rank and status. For Simus of the Hawk, now is the time to raise his challenge banner, to fight for the chance to finally become Warlord.

But his deadliest challenge does not come from other warriors, or even the sundered Council of Elders. For on the first night of the Challenges, a mysterious and deadly pillar of white light scorches the night sky—instantly changing everything for the People of the Plains.

Now a warrior-priestess, Snowfall, stands before Simus, who dares to speak of peace, of reconciliation. Her knives are sharp, her tattoos alluring, and her cool grey eyes can look through Simus and see…everything.

Now Simus and Snowfall must solve the mystery of the pillar of white light, and protect their people from all the destruction and chaos it brings. Snowfall fights for her place beside Simus, despite resistance from friend and foe.

The warrior-priests have abused their power for many years. Can Simus face the challenge of trusting Snowfall with his honor? And perhaps . . . with his heart?

It's been quite some time since we last had a book in the Chronicles of the Warlands series. Book 4, Warcry, came out in 2011! Xylara, the Warprize, and Keir are absolutely my favorite couple. But I love reading about the others in this world as well. I've read this series again several times over the last decade, and it's fabulous to have another book to add to the series. Dare I hope that this means we will be seeing more in the Warlands world (*insert sad begging puppy eyes here*)?

Simus of the Hawk has been a larger than life character, a huge man with skin dark as night. A formidable warrior under Keir, he is now challenging to become a Warlord in his own right this year.
Snowfall is a warrior-priestess, but has managed to escape the evil that has infiltrated the ranks of her fellow priests. Her mentor tasks her with working with Simus to bring peace. This is a tale of their unlikely love set against the backdrop of the sweeping vistas of the Plains people. Political intrigue, magic, and plenty of old friends give plenty of heft to this very pleasing book. Elizabeth Vaughan can do no wrong in my eyes.

WarDance eBook Elizabeth Vaughan Reviews

This is the fifth book in Elizabeth Vaughan's Chronicles of the Warlands and she has lost none of the intensity that grabbed me in Warprize. I was so glad that Simus of the Hawk finally had the chance to tell his truths. I liked how she wove events from her second series, Epic of Palins and specifically Destiny's Star, into this story. I can't wait to dive into Warsong to hear Joden and Amyu's truths. Better warm up more kavage.
If you have followed from the beginning I know we are all like...FINALLY, a new book! And it didn't disappoint, so many threads it will leave you spinning but it will pull you in and not let you go! And, of course, leave you breathless and yelling...omg, when is the next book out? You will not be disappointed with Wardance, and you will visit old friends and meet new ones. If you haven't read her other books, I recommend you read them in order, at least the 1st trilogy so you understand the hidden meanings and actions taking place.
Elizabeth Vaughan is an amazing storyteller and this book continues her beautiful storyline. Similar to Native American warriors and city dwellers. Each a stand alone novel but I think readers will get the most enjoyment best reading in order. I really enjoyed this book and read fast and furiously. Why not 5 stars. Maybe because I don't think Ms. Vaughan should introduce too much magic into the storyline.
Can't get enough of this series. Wish the author would write faster or publish quicker. This story continues with characters we have already met and gives them their own story line. Waiting impatiently for next book.
Finally! We have another book in the Warprize series...it feels like it's been ages since the last book with the sort of cliff-hanger ending. So long in fact, I had to reread the last book's ending to remind myself where we were! But this is another good read in the Warprize series. I enjoyed the story a lot! I would go back and read both of the preceding series first, since both tie into this novel. And while it feels a little predictable it's an enjoyable read; even though it's setting us up for yet another series. But with Elizabeth Vaughn, that's a good thing!
I have waited since 2011 for this book and I was not disappointed. Beth picked up the story from her last book and carried the characters straight through. Her people have taken on a life and I can not wait for the next book. Simus and snowfall were a great couple and you could really feel the connection between them.

I purchased this book as soon as it was announced and I would recommend it to everyone. You can not go wrong with a book from this author. She is wonderful. I hope the next book will be really soon.

I want to know what happens to Joden, Marcus, and I want to know if Amyu gets to ride a flying horse.
It's here! Every few years there is that one anticipated book, and for my sisters and I it was Wardance! Elizabeth Vaughan's first ever book was Warprize that was a fantastic first look into a world of warriors where from infancy to death they focused on one thing - - - being the best warrior they could be as they advanced in ranks to one day possibly be War King!

Wardance follows the saga, giving life and continuation to one friend's effort to become War Lord. Simus has returned to the Heart of the Plains, where tradition requires all warriors to return every Spring, to challenge for the opportunity to be one of this season's 8 War Lords. His last season War Lord, Keir, has a plan! But to succeed, he needs Simus to win War Lord, gather a strong force of warriors, and back Keir in his efforts to change the path of their people.

Change, though, is never easy for some people, especially those holding power and control over many! The subtle fight for the future path of their people is expected but detested as Simus' and Keir's enemies undermine all their efforts, forcing their people to choose sides in the battle.

Just as Elizabeth wrote Warprize, Warsworn, Warlord, Warcry and Destiny's Star - the romance is tasteful and discrete, emotion being the focus of the romance instead of sex. The world building that created this series is significant and continuous throughout the books. Wardance was a terrific continuation of Keir's battle to change the warrior way with his 2nd - Simus - a huge force of determination. Danger lies in the struggle when an added element of evil beasts attack the Heart during Spring Challenge, rending horses, tents and people. Simus must overcome warrior challenges, protect the future warriors sheltering with him unexpectedly, learn to trust the powers of his lover and continue on Keir's path for their people. NO PROBLEM should have been one of Simus' tattoos...cause he's got this!

Change is here! How will Simus accept it in this Springs Challenge? Read to learn...
